The day before the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, the city, in fear of incendiary raids, had put hundreds of schoolgirls to work helping to tear down houses and clear fire lanes. But then delicious pickles appeared, which caused a Japanese palate to cry out for rice, and he decide to have a bowl after all.
